Signs and experiences
The impact of emigrating is usually experienced in very different ways over time. These are some of the most common feelings we work on in sessions.
Deep nostalgia
Blurred belonging
Language fatigue
Intense longing for your country,
your loved ones, shared codes or your everyday routines.
A constant feeling of not fully belonging either here or there, as if you lived in an in-between space.
The cognitive and emotional fatigue of having to think, work and relate constantly in another language.
Shared loneliness
Guilt about the distance
Two divided lives
A feeling of isolation or emotional disconnection, even when surrounded by colleagues or friends in the city.
Guilt about being far from your family when difficulties arise or when you miss important moments in their lives.
An inner sense of fragmentation, holding at the same time the person you were and the life you are building.
For many people, being able to put into words what they feel in their own language makes it easier. You can choose the language, Spanish or English, in which you feel more comfortable.
I left the familiar behind to build a new life somewhere else. Today I live in Copenhagen, and that experience of adapting to a new environment, another language and other ways of doing things shapes the way I support other people in therapy.
Without rushing and at your pace. We talk about what you have left behind, what you have gained and what is still hard. We understand how it shows up in your day-to-day life, for example in anxiety, stress or your relationship, and we build tools and a place you can call home.
